I'm tired...

... because a 30 mile, one-and-a-half our commute which lets you witness the beginning of a car fire will do that to you. I eventually became so focused on just getting home that I didn't even think to stop at my credit union when I passed the Euclid Avenue exit. I need to get over to the bank because my reimbursement check for the trip to Southern California finally came through and I really need to deposit it soon. I suppose it won't matter that I missed the credit union today since I'll be going right back past it tomorrow.

Today was surprisingly slow at work. I handled a few helpdesk tickets, and watched the aftermath of a firmware upgrade on one of our Sun T-3 storage arrays that went a wee bit awry. I traded for the on-call/late shift with one of my coworkers (he asked politely and I hadn't any reason to tell him "no"). That means I'm now on call and working from 11 AM to 7:30 PM this week, and he'll take my on-call/late shift next week. There's a small upside to this -- I don't have to be in to the office early tomorrow so I should hopefully have enough time to do everything I want before work. For now tomorrow morning's list of goals is very simple: I want to hit the treadmill in the morning, take a shower afterward and stop by the bank on the drive to work. I really need to get that $1,006 taken care of.

On a completely unrelated note, Ra is a surprisingly graceless critter sometime. He jumped up on the back of my chair to cuddle with me, tried to cheek rub my shoulder, overbalanced and tumbled down to the floor. Why do I get to own such broken pets?

I still got a purpose to serve

I took a nap not long after my earlier entry and slept for a good two hours. I don't know why but I was really quite drowsy even before I got stuck in traffic. It was distressing to note that I nearly nodded off a few times on the road, and was only able to stay awake by sheer force of will.

Eventually my alarm went off, since I had planned to only allow myself to get a 1.5 hour nap. I naturally rolled over and hit the snooze bar... but luckily Ra was in the bedroom with me. The little black ball of fur managed to wake me up after pestering me endlessly in that special way he has, which earned him a few more flight miles across the room but eventually roused me from my stupor. Ra is nothing if not persistent, which is probably why I love him as much as I do -- he's stubborn as they come, just like me.

Once I was awake enough to coordinate my limbs I got up from bed, tossed my covers back into place and slipped into my exercise clothes. After I grabbed two bottles of water from the fridge and filled them with the appropriate levels of lemon juice (Mmm, lemon water... very refreshing when I'm doing my exercise) I put in an hour on the treadmill with the same results as last time. Tonight's viewing choice was Ghost In The Shell. I only barely understand that movie... which I guess is better than my interaction with Akira, which I didn't understand at all.

Why do so many feature-length anime films have to be so existential?!

I want to destroy Roho for pointing me to this. A fully refurbished DeLorean, for $35,000... and you can even custom-order it online with added features for a fairly reasonable fee. For example, you can get the 3-speed automatic or the 5-speed manual, you can get the exterior and interior to your spec, you can even get the engine upgraded to a 197 hp model (a significant uplift from the one that was originally offered stock). No, there is no "Flux Capacitor" package option...

I've been dreaming about owning one of these beauties for over ten years and only missed the one I was bidding on by a few hundred dollars... and that one was busted up and in need of some TLC. Now I've found out I can go buy a like-new one with a warranty with all the toys?!? This isn't fair.

Buy a house, or buy a collector's car. House, or collector's car... house, or car?
