Kodak retiring Kodachrome
It's official, Kodak is retiring Kodachrome film at the end of 2009.

I love my digital camera, but film is what I grew up with and learned on. I still appreciate the many benefits film has over digital (not the least of which is simple "archivability"), so this stings on a personal level even though I never did any darkroom work myself.

Why do the good always die young?

It makes financial sense on their part, unless you intend to buy a $1 billion worth of the stuff each year. ;) Kodak is hemorrhaging and this is one step they had to take.

I will admit, I still find drugstores out of place without the huge rack of yellow boxed film. Its also odd to see the rack of "disposable" cameras replaced with disposable cell phones.

I never said it didn't, but.... it still stings, and ends an era.

But what does Paul Simon have to say about this?

Kodachrome is not exactly young --- it was introduced in 1935!

It does not surprise me at all that you're the first to point this out!
