When I worked at DJI, they had something similar in the RnD department where I worked, except it was the classic "Employee of the Month" deal. Every month we all had to gather as management picked the next employee, who of course was embaressed.

To the management, it was better then raises!

Every workplace should have a Wall of Recognition! As well as a Door of Resignation, a Chair of Decision, a Room of Rest, and of course a Keyboard of Smiting (+3 vs. cluelessness, no saving throw).
